ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (D)
Karibu! Welcome to Tanzania! You’ll arrive at the KIA Lodge and then be greeted by a traditional welcome drink and dinner.

Day 2: Travel to Kilimanjaro Base (B, L, D)
Travel to the base camp on the west side of Mt. Kilimanjaro, prepare for your ascent and enjoy a special dinner featuring a traditional Maasai evening show.

Day 3: Lemosho Trail – Forest Camp (B, L, D) Approximately 6 km, 3.7 mi, 9,000 ft
Travel to the Londorossi Gate to sign in before transferring to the Lemosho Trail head, and then trek through rainforests to reach the Forest Camp and your first night on Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Day 04: Shira 1 Camp (B, L, D) Approximately 8 km, 5 mi, 11,300 ft
Climb out of the forest, through the Savannah grasses and up to the Shira plateau where we’ll overnight at the Shira Camp.

Day 05: Shira 2 Camp (B, L, D) Approximately 10 km, 6.2 mi, 12,500 ft
Trek across the breathtaking Shira Plateau (a World Heritage site) brings you to the Moir Camp on the slopes of Kibo Massif.

Day 6: Shira Plateau – Barranco Camp (B, L, D) Approximately 15 km, 9.3 mi, 13,000 ft
Wake up to the sweeping vistas of the plateau and hike to the pass at Lava Tower. Later, you’ll cross the Bastain stream and descend toward Barranco Camp for a welcome respite.

Day 7: Karanga Camp (B, L, D) Approximately 5 km, 3.1 mi, 13,000 ft
Start your hike to Karanga Camp and encounter a bit of a climb to the Karanga Valley, where you’ll meander through the valley, home to giant senecios and lobelia.

Day 8: Barafu Camp (B, L, D) Approximately 4 km, 2.5 mi, 15,200 ft
The scenic climb to Barafu Camp takes you through the alpine desert terrain and gives you a view of the Mawenzi peak.

Day 9: Summit Climb (B, L, D) (Ascent approximately 5 km, 3.1 mi, 19,430 ft; Descent approximately 12 km, 7.5 m)
Climbers start for the summit at midnight. Your vigorous climb takes you to the crater Stella Points and then on to the summit, Uhuru, which is the highest point on the continent of Africa.

Day 10: Mweka – Arusha (B, L, D) Approximately 10 km, 6.2 mi
On the final day of your climbing adventure, you’ll descend to the base and be rewarded with a certificate attesting to your trip to the summit.

Day 11: Arusha – Manyara (B, L, D)
Waking up in Arusha, we’ll drive to Serengeti National Park for the quintessential Tanzanian safari experience. You may also choose to take a village walk through Mto Wa Mbu on the shores of Lake Manyara.

Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater (B, L, D)
Visit the Ngorongoro crater for a picnic lunch and enjoy the varied wildlife, including lions, zebras, waterbucks and flamingos. Coming back, we’ll visit a Maasai village.

Day 13: Ngorongoro – Tarangire (B, L, D)
We’re on to the Tarangire National Park for game drives along the Tarangire River, which lures wildlife from the plains, including wildebeests, elephants and buffalo, to this verdant sanctuary.

Day 14: Tarangire – Arusha (B, L, D)
Return to Arusha, visiting the Maasai Market and the Shanga Cultural Center. We’ll say farewell to Tanzania with a traditional dinner and dance by Monduli-Juu villagers.

Day 15: Departure (B)

OPTIONAL ZANZIBAR EXTENSION

(Please note that there is a baggage weight limit of 33 1bs. per person and must be in soft bags for domestic flights.)

Day 15-18: Zanzibar
Zanzibar, which includes Unguja, Pemba and Mafia Islands, remains one of the few undiscovered pristine beach destinations in the world. During your optional extension, you can choose to swim in the Indian Ocean, relax under the shades of the famous Zanzibar coconut trees and luxuriate in a resort that cultivates your mind, body and soul. Zanzibar is the perfect way to wind down after your prized Mt. Kilimanjaro and Wildlife Safari experience!
