Mt. Everest Basecamp Trek: A Cultural Exploration

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu, Nepal
Arrive Kathmandu and attend a briefing about your trek to the Everest Base Camp.

Day 02: Kathmandu (B, D)
Take a walking tour of Old Kathmandu City, visiting Durbar Square and Taleju Temple. Later, enjoy a traditional Nepali dinner.

Day 03: Kathmandu (B)
Visit the Bhaktapur, the Lion Gate, the Golden Gate and the Palace of Fifty-Five Windows. Then stop at the Pashupatinath Temple and the Bodhnath Stupa.

Day 04: Kathmandu – Lukla – Tok Tok (2743m) (B, L, D)
Fly to Lukla, a renowned mountain airstrip, and then trek to your campsite in Tok Tok.

SPECIAL NOTE: Flights into Lukla are sometimes delayed due to un-flyable conditions either in fog-bound Kathmandu or windy Lukla; be reassured that our staff will do everything possible to minimize the inconvenience caused if this happens.

Day 05: Tok Tok – Chogang – Namche (3600m) (B, L, D)
Begin the ascent to Namche, the largest town in Khumbu. Enjoy the Namche Bazaar before turning in for the night.

Day 06: Rest & Acclimatization Day (B, L, D)
Take the day off to allow your body to adjust to the rarefied atmosphere before ascending to higher altitudes.

Day 07: Chogang Namche – Khumjung (3791m) (B, L, D)
Enjoy a brisk climb to Khumjung, visiting a historic nunnery along the way.

Day 08: Khumjung – Tengboche (3863m) (B, L, D)
Descend to Dudh Khosi before climbing through the rhododendron forest and seeing Tengboche, the principal monastery of Khumbu.

Day 09: Tengboche – Lhabarma (3900m) (B, L, D)
Trek from Tengboche and cross the Mingbo stream and then climb to Lhabarma.

Day 10: Ama Dablam Base Camp (4787m) (B, L, D)
Enjoy a morning hike to the Ama Dablam Base Camp and return to Lhabarma later in the day.

Day 11: Lhabarma –Dingboche (4412m) (B, L, D)
Take a gradual climb to the village of Lower Pangboche and onto the hamlet of Dingboche at the start of the Imja Tse valley.

Day 12: Dingboche – Rest & Acclimatization Day (B, L, D)
Rest and acclimatize at Dingboche, with short hikes to Periche or the Imja Tse Valley toward Island Peak.

Day 13: Dingboche – Loboje (4931m) (B, L, D)
Climb the ridge behind Periche until you reach the teahouses at Dughla. Then tackle a steep ascent to the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier and our campsite at Loboje.

Day 14: Loboje – Everest Base Camp- Gorakshep (4939m) (B, L, D)
Get geared up for a long trek today to the Everest Base Camp.

Day 15: Gorakshep – Kala Pattar (5545m) – Loboje (B, L, D)
From the Base Camp, trek along the side of the Khumbu glacier to the tea shacks at Gorak Shep. All the Himalayan peaks – Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Changtse and Ama Dablam – can be seen from here.

Day 16: Loboje – Pangboche (3860m) (B, L, D)
Enjoy an easy walk down the Imja Khola via Pheriche with a visit to the gompa at Pangboche. Tonight you will set up camp near the monastery.

Day 17: Pangboche –Kyangzuma (3650m) (B, L, D)
Descend through the forest to the Dudh Kosi.

Day 18: Kyangzuma – Monjo (2744m) (B, L, D)
The return route towards Lukla leads back through Namche and further down the hill.

Day 19: Monjo – Lukla (2805m) (B, L, D)
Take your long, final climb into Lukla, spending your final night at the Namaste Lodge or the North Face Resort.

Day 20: Lukla – Kathmandu (B)
Fly to Kathmandu and spend a leisurely afternoon in the city.

Day 21: Kathmandu (B, D)
Visit Bungamati Village and Patan City, visiting temples, museums and ancient architectural sites. Enjoy a farewell dinner at the Bhojan Griha restaurant, watching Nepali folk dances.

Day 22: Departure (B)
A final “feri bhetaula” (farewell) before you travel home. Bon Voyage!


Day 22: Kathmandu – Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge (B, L, D)
Travel from Kathmandu to Meghauly, traveling by boat and vehicle to Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge located in Chitwan National Park, a World Heritage site.

Day 23-24: Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge (B, L, D)
Enjoy the Tiger Tops Jungle experience: elephant riding, jungle walks, river safaris, game drives, bird watching and elephant camp visits. With a bit of luck, there is always the chance of glimpsing leopard, sloth bear and an elusive Royal Bengal Tiger.

Day 25: Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge – Kathmandu (B)
Return to Kathmandu for a leisurely afternoon.

Day 26: Departure (B)
Depart for the airport and home. Bon Voyage!
